Topic - The Art of the Apology

A sincere apology can appease someone who is not satisfied and reassure them that you value their relationship and are willing to fix the issue. Whether personally or professionally, we all are in a position to benefit from using this skill well.

Failing to apologize can damage a reputation and end a relationship. Give your clients a good story to tell about your service recovery. Sheryl Chesnutt retired from Gaylord Opryland after a 26-year hospitality career. This service basic, among others, attributed to brand growth and service success in the industry.

About the Speaker:

Sheryl Chesnutt, CEO Boys & Girls Club of Rutherford Co.

Sheryl Chesnutt has served as CEO at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County for the last seven years, after retiring from a 26-year hospitality career at Gaylord Opryland where she last served as Director of Rooms Division in one of the largest non-gaming hotels in the world.

Gaylord Opryland has 2881 rooms, and peaked at 89% yearly occupancy. Millions of guests pass through the doors annually. The departments in Rooms Division  included Front Office, Celebrity Services, Reservations and Ticketing, PABX, Bell Services, Parking, Transportation, Housekeeping Rooms and Public Space, Spa, and Laundry,  with 800 “STAR” Employees including the hotel Managers on Duty. Providing excellent service was always the goal, and ensuring everyone was armed with service recovery skills was a key to success.

In 2016, she felt a heart tug do something more with her life, and use her talents to serve others. She feels fortunate to have found a second career in an organization with an amazing board and staff who are deeply committed to investing in our community’s youth, helping prepare them reach their full potential and achieve their brightest future.

Sheryl and her husband Ted have been married for 33 years. During COVID they built their dream home “Chesnook”, a barn home,  on the family farm in Christiana. They have three children and two grands. Their youngest, Caroline,  is a freshman at UT Knoxville.
